I AM THE COLOURSMITH
CAROLINE de GIER
STYLING
My natural instinct is to explore a sense of adventure through colour, I’m drawn to a fusion of modern and vintage styling which brings a whimsical cohesion. I enjoy colour combinations that are playful: black bedroom walls with a 1930’s pink powder room ceiling was a recent favourite and I’ve recently discovered a love of plants, particularly palms as they remind me of old Hollywood glamour. When I work on an interior, I’m not looking for perfection or uniform, I’m looking to evoke a sense of timeless elegance using a blend of beauty and character. Our homes are increasingly important as multi-functional spaces in which to work, play and contemplate. My aim is to create not only a sanctuary but a retreat from the world, a chance to breathe and escape whilst surrounded by colours that nourish and objects which inspire the imagination.
As filmmaker and interior designer, Luca Guadagnino said, “I love the idea of making a space for the interaction between the person living in the space and the space in itself.”
